Very light peacock body color, giving them a steely blue appearance. Very good lustre with almost eye-clean surfaces. Accented with 8 tiny diamonds each. These are a very nice pair. Don't be fooled by low priced "Tahitian Black" pearl listings.   Most of those listings from China are actually cheaper Chinese freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls will turn dark when exposed to radiation. It is a stable and safe treatment, but Chinese vendors are passing theirs off as Tahitian. This is completely wrong. 99.99% of pearls on the public market are cultured. Cultured saltwater pearls require pristine outdoor ocean environments. The oysters are very sensitive to their surroundings and need constant care. Even the temperature must be just right to make quality pearls. The nucleus of pearls are   polished spheres  of freshwater mussel shell. A very skilled technician is needed to place it and the donor tissue in just the right place. Even then 50-60% of oysters will eject the bead or die after incubation. The growth period for the pearl takes anywhere from 11 months to 7 years. Of the thousands of pearls harvested many are not round enough, clean enough, or have proper quality nacre to be used in fine jewelry. Pearls can't be polished to a round shape. It would leave dull spots. So what comes out of the oyster is what you get. And those all have to be sorted out and matched together by hand! A technician will have to sort through thousands of pearls to create one necklace. It's no wonder that even cultured pearls can demand a premium price.
