This 1/2-liter relief pottery stein features a richly colored tavern/courting scene with ornate blue, cream, brown, green and red decoration and an elaborate hinged pewter lid. The German inscription reads “Der erste Zug, nie lang genug,” translated as “The first gulp, never long enough.” The central scene is based on Emil Rau’s painting “Zwischen zwei Feuern” (“Between Two Fires”). Marked 1/2L near the upper body. Measures approximately 8 inches tall overall. Condition: Very attractive antique condition with age-related wear, surface marks and natural patina consistent with age. Pewter lid retains substantial decorative detail and shows expected oxidation/patina. Hinge and thumb lift are present. Interior appears well preserved.
