View Octagonal Clear Glass Open Master Salt Cellar w/Gold Trim & Painting Dated 1875 with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Very unusual master salt. Very thick-walled and quite heavy; 3 5/8" long x 2 1/2" wide x 1 3/8" high. Plain, except for the layer of gold-painted trim on the bottom. On the "top" of that paint (that is, you can see it through the salt) is an impressionist-style painting of flowers, along with the date, 1875 (presumably the date of manufacture, although I do not know the provenance of the salt). The gold paint is not complete, but there is enough of it to see the entire inside painting. See photos.
