Nampeyo ca. 2000  3.750" H x 3.750" D Hand-Voiled Sikyatki Polychrome Polished Pottery with 2 Handles From a Private Colorado Collection Excellent Condition Adelle Lalo Nampeyo, born in 1959 into the Hopi-Tewa Nation’s Corn Clan, is a renowned Hopi potter and a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano, who revived the ancient Sikyatki pottery style. Adelle learned traditional pottery techniques from her mother, Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo (1926-1985), and grandmother, Fannie Polacca Nampeyo (1900-1987). Active since 1970, she specializes in hand-coiled Sikyatki polychrome pottery, using natural materials from the earth, polished with stones, painted with yucca brushes, and fired in outdoor pits, often with sheep dung. Her favorite designs include fine lines, eagle tails, clowns, butterflies, bird wings, rainclouds, negative stars, and connected scrolls. Adelle’s work, signed with her name and a corn symbol, reflects her spiritual commitment to preserving Hopi traditions, and she teaches these methods to her children.
