The largest pieces in this set are 8.5 in which make them a very large scale comparative to most chalkware nativity sets made during the mid-century. I believe these are probably from the 1940s judging by the color choices and general painting style. This vintage nativity set is very unusual because of its size. It is by far the largest chalkware set I have ever personally come across and I collect nativities as a hobby so I'm always looking! The largest pieces in this set are 8.5 in which make them a very large scale comparative to most chalkware nativity sets made during the mid-century. I believe these are probably from the 1940s judging by the color choices and general painting style. The pieces are unmarked, so I have no idea where they came from originally, but they were found at an estate sale in northwestern Pennsylvania. If I had to guess I might say they were made in Japan because of the cardboard paper manger. The figures are in amazing condition for chalkware. I did not take a million close up photos because there is very little damage, but if you need me to take a close up of anything let me know. You may find a small flea bite here or there or a tiny loss of paint, but I did not find missing ears on the animals, cracks or broken off heads. I did not find any major instances of missing paint. They all look really terrific considering age and composition. The set displays beautifully and the pictures don't do it justice. This set comes with the stable pictured. There is one bar that is missing at the back of the animal pen and I had to glue the other bar back in place. It should not affect use or display.
