Carving is distinct, the tusks, ears, trunk, legs, tail and body are clearly defined. Necklace portion is 18” long, fastener is cylinder twist (barrel clasp). No visible damage, consistent faux ivory coloring. Exact age unknown, as it was a family heirloom, but my research indicates it could be from as early as the 1950’s. Hand carved each of the individual 24 elephants are unique and the pendant has dimensional curve most likely being carved from bone. Trunks of all elephants are facing down. Eastern cultures believe an elephant with the trunk pointed downwards stores luck and energy. It is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge allowing you to easily overcome various tasks and obstacles.
