This is an oversized stereoview and is particularly interesting because it is not a standard mass-produced commercial stereoview issued by one of the major publishers. Instead, this is a privately produced amateur stereograph consisting of two individual black-and-white photographic prints mounted side-by-side on a heavy tan card to create the stereoscopic image. The mount is handwritten “YELLOW STONE” along the edge. There is no commercial publisher, photographer's imprint, series number or printed caption, and the reverse is completely blank. The photographs show Kepler Cascades on the Firehole River surrounded by the heavily forested Yellowstone landscape. An unusual piece of Yellowstone photographic history and considerably different from the commercially manufactured souvenir stereoviews commonly encountered. The amateur construction suggests it was privately produced by an individual photographer rather than manufactured and distributed commercially. Excellent crossover collectible for Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Western Americana, amateur photography, oversized stereoviews, stereographs, vintage photography and early 3-D photography collectors. The photographs remain clear with strong detail and contrast. The mount shows age toning and light handling wear consistent with its age.
