William "Bill" Traipe Call Jr. military items. Colonial Call was attending The University of New Hampshire when he enlisted in the U.S. Army, receiving his officer's commission once he graduated. He was a proud member of the 11th Airborne Division involved in the liberation of the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. He served admirably as an infantry officer during the Korean War. Col. Call was the military technical adviser on the 1952 Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movie "Jumping Jacks." He also appears in the movie performing parachute jumps. For several years, he commanded stateside JROTC units, including the Gloucester, Mass., unit. He was then ordered to Europe, where he was instrumental in moving the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) from France to Belgium. After several years of command duties at SHAPE, he took up his final assignment as director of athletics, including assignment as Headquarters Commander at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. During his service, he was awarded many medals and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, several campaign medals for World War II and Korean War service and the Army Commendation medal. This auction is for a vintage coffee mug the 101 Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell Kentucky. I am unsure how this would tie in to the 11th Airborne but this mug was displayed in his den for some reason. Some staining from use on inside. Winner to add $5.95 for shipping.
