Hand accomplished filigree wirework, silver granulation, and a wire threaded surround of natural baroque seed pearls elevate the look. No cheap bauble in its day, the ornament provides a real lesson in the enduring superiority of skilled bench work and thoughtful design. The sapphire tests as exactly that, though I assume it is a synthetic stone. Whatever that case, charts on line indicate it should be around 1.6 carats. There is "800" well struck verso for silver fineness. An old plated necklace chain was with this in the estate which will come with as a gift - use it as they did or replace with something of your own choosing. Weight is good for the form at about 9.8 grams on my portable digital scale - to be clear that's the brooch only without the chain. Condition is quite good though not absolutely perfect, with an aura of time to the gilt surfaces. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh away or "improve" upon any natural toning - you want that done you do it. There is a tiny amount of what appears ancient polish residue still present behind the pearls ( I'm mentioning just so you won't). The sapphire shows facet wear and chattering to the backside, the last I believe from the original cutting / polish. Two of the tiny seed pearls present an unobtrusive ancient loss, though this clearly served just so in the long ago. The barrel shaped bale still works exactly as it should - ditto the original pin and C-clasp. I'm nitpicking for the obsessive here, and a look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 1 7/42 in. (think 1 1/4 in.) across - and yes it will be noticed. The included chain is about 19 5/8 in. long.
