They are also stamped Y32, which indicates that the plates were made in May 1932. 6 Vintage Copeland Spode New Stone Independence Luncheon Salad Plates 8.75" Rare. Unique vintage set of 6 Copeland Spode New Stone Independence salad/luncheon plates measuring 8.75" across. Features the monogram of DEF* in the interior of a shield. Made in England for T. Goode & Co., Ltd., London. The Spode Mark is found on the bottom of the plates. They are also stamped Y32, which indicates that the plates were made in May 1932. Plates are an off white with a center monogram of DEF in the interior of a shield, with a cobalt blue border with gold stars, a thin red line, and finished with a heavy gold rim. Full stamp reads: T. Goode & Co., Ltd., London, Copeland's Spode England New Stone. Good condition, minor wear and scratches, as expected on vintage items.  No chips or cracks are evident.  Please review the attached photos for examples of potential wear.  There are a total of 18 plates that I divided into 3 lots of 6 plates. * The monogram "DEF" is for David Edward Finley. He was the first Director of the National Gallery of Art, and served from 1938-1956. He also served a term as the President of the American Association of Museums; and was the founding Chairman of both The National Trust for Historic Preservation, and The White House Historical Association.
