There were many repeating motifs such as arrows, horses/dogs, teepees, thunderbirds, snakes, and nohokos (whirling logs). Design: Snake, floral, rosette, and sunburst motifs. Closure: Open adjustable cuff. Vintage 1940s Southwestern-style sterling silver open cuff bracelet featuring a prominent snake motif surrounded by stamped floral, rosette, and sunburst decoration. The bracelet has an attractive aged patina and a narrow, wearable cuff design. The snake appears to be an integral part of the raised central decoration, with additional decorative stamping extending along the front and sides of the band. The bracelet has been acid tested and tests positive for sterling silver . No maker’s mark or hallmark is visible in the photographs. According to the previous owner, it was purchased in the Southwest and dates to approximately the 1940s. Fred Harvey style silver jewelry was commercially manufactured from around 1900 to the 1950s. Originally advertised as native made, the pieces were made at the behest of western traders and curio shop owners. The jewelry offered tourists a distillation of Native American art in a wearable and affordable form.
