Historically significant and antique pieces produced in Arita during the Edo period are referred to as Ko-Imari, while those made in the current Imari City after the Meiji period are known as Imari ware. Characterized by its transparent white glaze, Imari ware was exported to Europe, where it was cherished by royalty and nobility. Products made in Arita-Somayama were shipped from Imari Port, hence Arita ware is commonly referred to as Imari ware or Imari.
