NOTE: Believed to be a seal due to carving on bottom with reddish plain. This object appears to be a vintage Chinese hand-carved soapstone or shoushan stone figurine depicting a traditional Taoist immortal, wise man, or stellar deity (such as Shoulao or an Earth God / Tudigong) seated on an elaborately carved base. Carved from a mottled light-colored stone resembling soapstone or serpentine, featuring deep drapery folds on the robes, a long flowing beard, and a high official cap. The figure holds a staff or auspicious object, flanked by small guardian lion or animal carvings on the armrests, sitting upon a plinth carved with traditional motifs. Common among 20th-century decorative Asian export carvings and traditional scholar's objects, though exact age requires physical inspection of the stone matrix and tool marks.
