It sits on 2 round bun feet and 2 rectangular feet in the back. The columns on each side are also marvelously carved. This apprentice dresser highlights the work of a true craftsman. It’s absolutely gorgeous. This desk came from the home of a collector of these salesman sample chests and dressers. She kept the sales receipt from the antiques dealer she purchased it from in New Orleans, LA. It has been lovingly cared for over the years and the craftsmanship is excellent. These miniature furniture pieces were made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsman who is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents, or they were made as a travelling salesman sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road trip on which the salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and take orders from.
