Antique Regency / Victorian style silver plated solid brass biscuit box or tea caddy from the late 1800s through the early 1920s. Most of the silver plating has worn off, revealing the brass underneath. Antique Regency / Victorian style silver plated solid brass biscuit box or tea caddy from the late 1800s through the early 1920s. Most of the silver plating has worn off, revealing the brass underneath. This piece could be reconditioned to remove the remaining silver and polish up the amazing brass. The hinged lid sits up a little in the front so there's a slight gap between the lip and where it sits. It still seals OK. The domed top is ribbed and edged with a floral motif. The handle is a small finial The oval body is highlighted by Doric columns. There is a round handle on each long end of the oval body. Inside condition is about the same as the outside, but there's a little bit more of the silver plate that remains inside and on the bottom. The only marking is the number "88" in several places. It's most likely a indication of the silver plate designation. The brass is patinaed and there's some old polishing compound in some of the recesses. No dents; the body is in good shape.
