Sold as found from estate collection. Vintage hand-crafted African beaded sash / large belt with cowrie shell border from the Howard & Eunice Gelb estate collection. This piece was acquired through a Pickett Enterprises estate auction and was identified in the estate listing as an: “Old Large Yoruba Beaded Sash or Large Belt w/Cowries” I cannot independently authenticate exact age, tribe, or origin, so I am selling it as Yoruba style / possible Yoruba attribution. Details: • Approx. 65 inches long • Extensive hand-applied multicolor seed bead work • Cowrie shell border around entire perimeter • Geometric design in red, blue, green, light blue, yellow, and white • Purple beaded loop/attachment at one end • Handmade textile construction • Estate provenance from Howard & Eunice Gelb collection Condition: Displays very well from the front with strong colors and attractive beadwork. Age/use wear present: • Scattered bead loss, primarily in white background areas • Minor age-related creasing/waviness to beadwork and textile foundation • Fraying and wear to backing fabric • Loose threads present • Some edge separation/warping • At least one cowrie shell attachment is loose/partially detached • General age and storage wear Please review all photographs carefully as they are part of the description and condition.
