Four plates display without the noted chip. Matching set of five antique hand-painted Nippon porcelain cabinet or dessert plates featuring elaborate Japanese figural and landscape scenes. Each plate is richly decorated with Japanese figures, traditional landscapes, red architectural accents, extensive gold gilding and intricate raised white enamel or moriage-style beadwork. The combination of figural scenes, lattice patterns and raised decoration makes these considerably more elaborate than typical floral Nippon plates. The underside carries the green “Hand Painted Nippon” M-in-wreath backstamp associated with Morimura Brothers. This mark is generally dated to approximately 1911–1921. One plate has a small, shallow chip along the underside of the outer rim. From the decorated side, it appears only as a slight notch at the edge. The central scene and surrounding raised decoration remain unaffected. No hairline crack is visible extending from the chip. Close-up photographs of both sides of the chipped area are included. These plates are more than a century old, so minor variations, surface wear and imperfections consistent with age should be expected.
