Up for sale is an exceptional example of Golden Age French travel engineering. This flat-top low cabin trunk is a documented piece of European high-society history in excellent condition for its age. While the top surface was historically finished in a uniform flat black, the side panels retain a spectacularly rare, untouched chronological travel record mapping out a luxury journey taken by an elite traveler (Initials: C.M.W.) from Paris to the royal coastal resort of Biarritz. With its flat top and heavy wood reinforcements, this piece is the ideal height and shape to be repurposed as a luxury coffee table, media console, or statement blanket chest. 🔍 HISTORICAL MARKINGS & PROVENANCE:"Paris Quai d’Orsay" Stamp: Original overlapping departure stamp from the historic Paris terminal (now the world-famous Musée d'Orsay art museum)."Biarritz Ville" Label: The exact destination station built in 1911 to funnel royal and wealthy international travelers directly to grand palace hotels like the Hôtel du Palais."M1D1" Network Code: Confirms cargo transit via the historic Compagnie des Chemins de Fer du Midi (The Midi Railway). Baggage Tracking Data: Features original stamped inventory codes: Bagage 8, Registry Code 790.Custom Owner Monogram: Matching hand-painted initials CMW are proudly visible on both the canvas and the label, providing an unbroken historical timeline.🛠️ HARDWARE & PREMIUM CONSTRUCTION:The Lock Mechanism: Solid brass lock system manufactured by the historic Parisian foundry Defontaine, Dubois & Cie (Stamped DC). Features the French security stamp "SÛRETÉ" and is factory-coded to Key Code No. 9 (keys can be sourced online under this number). Au Soleil Sunburst Brass: The surrounding decorative brass accents and heavy rivets feature the beautifully cast trademark logo of La Compagnie des Clous "AU SOLEIL" (Paris), depicting a woman's face surrounded by a radiant sunburst. Bottom Hardware: Heavy-duty, patented brackets stamped PTE (Breveté / Patented) and SGDG (Sans Garantie du Gouvernement), verifying authentic French patent origins. Architectural Build: Built to the structural standards of luxury houses like Moynat and Goyard, utilizing alternating vertical wood reinforcement slats, a rugged leather-canvas wrap, and hand-stitched heavy leather edge binding and corner guards. Heavy, authentic leather carrying handles are intact on each end. 📐 CONDITION NOTE: Exterior: Beautifully preserved natural antique patina on the side canvas, wood slats, and solid brass hardware. The top has an older, flat-black overpaint finish that provides a clean, usable top surface while leaving the historically vital side stamps fully visible and untouched.
