I want that clear up front so there are no surprises. An antique engraved cross pendant, circa 1890 to 1920, late Victorian into Edwardian. Marked 1/20 on the piece, consistent with 1/20 12K gold filled. PLEASE NOTE: This is a GOLD FILLED pendant. It is not solid gold and it is not plated. Gold filled is a bonded layer of gold over a base metal core. I want that clear up front so there are no surprises. An antique engraved cross pendant, circa 1890 to 1920, late Victorian into Edwardian. Approximately 1.75 x 1.25 inches. Flat square-section arms, plain reverse, hollow thin-stock construction with a simple soldered jump ring, all consistent with the period. Marked 1/20 on the piece, consistent with 1/20 12K gold filled. The balance of the stamp has worn away over the last century. The front carries bright-cut foliate engraving, lily-of-the-valley and leaf sprays, and it is the reason to own this piece. I have photographed it in raking light so the cut work actually reads. CONDITION, honest assessment: The front engraving is crisp and well preserved. The reverse is heavily scratched. There is edge wear toward a brassier tone at the high points, which is the normal way gold filled wears through with age and handling. All photographed.This is a worn antique, priced as one.
