The hand-painted lid appears to depict the Russian bogatyr Alyosha Popovich at a crossroads, with an inscribed stone referencing traditional Russian epic imagery. Rich red, gold, green and black colors with detailed hand-painted decoration. The box has a red interior and decorative gold border along the exterior sides.
