Love pieces with a story?. The bag's materials, construction and hardware indicate considerable age. Similar Japanese pearl-beaded evening bags were produced over multiple decades, however, and we havenot established a precise manufacture date. A beautiful and unusually delicate vintage Japanese faux-pearl beaded evening handbag , densely covered in creamy ivory/champagne faux pearls and finished with a matching beaded handle. Despite measuring only about 7 inches wide, the bag weighs approximately half a pound—a wonderful indication of just how densely worked the original beadwork is. The exterior features rows of individually sewn/strung faux pearls over a textile foundation, with additional elongated pearl-shaped beads creating a decorative swag or garland motif beneath the handle. A metal-tooth zipper closes the top, and the interior is finished in a light satin-type fabric. The zipper slider carries an intriguing five-point star containing a stylized “H” maker's mark . We have not been able to reliably identify the manufacturer represented by this mark, so we have intentionally left it unattributed. An interior tag is marked Made in Japan . The bag's materials, construction and hardware indicate considerable age. Rather than overstate its history, we are listing it simply as authentically vintage Japanese manufacture. CONDITION This is a beautiful surviving piece, but it is extremely delicate . The dense original faux-pearl beadwork remains visually impressive; however, individual beads can release with even gentle handling. Some bead loss is already present, and close inspection shows age-related deterioration and discoloration to portions of the faux-pearl finish. The interior also shows age-related discoloration and wear. Because of the fragility of the original beadwork, we recommend this piece primarily for a vintage handbag collection, display, very careful special-occasion use, or a buyer comfortable preserving/restoring antique and vintage beadwork. Please examine all photographs carefully. The close-up photograph documents both the original bead construction and the unusual star-H zipper mark.
