It weighs 0,80 grams and is the perfect size for a gentleman to slip into the vest of his evening suit. ‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not consider to be beautiful or useful.’ William Morris French Antiques Sterling Silver Snuff/Tobacco Box-1830’s – Charles X Period An elegant little snuff or tobacco flip-top box, in sterling silver dating from the Charles X 1820's-1830's period. The top is beautifully guilloched, with a small CFB monogram. The little opener is decorated with a small ribbon twist and the bottom is delicately striped. It measures 2 ¾ inches wide by 1 5/8 inches and stands 5/8 inches high. There is a hallmark of an old man’s head, which was used between 1819-1830 in Paris France to designate sterling silver, and a very faded silversmith’s hallmark on the inside edge of the box, with light traces of surface use.
