Hinged bail at the top for a safety chain or neck chain. DESCRIPTION:    Terrific early 20th Century ca. 1900-1910 hand carved natural oval Shell Cameo. This cameo depicts a portrait of Athena, the Goddess of many things including wisdom and war, wearing a magnificent plumed helmet and elaborate breast plate. Meticulously carved in relief and set into an extra fine highly decorative hand crafted silver with gilt wash mount. The decoration is both very unusual and very pretty with tendrils and leaves. (Note: The shell is smooth and perfect. Cloudy looking areas on the surface are actually reflections from the lighting for photography that we could not avoid. See the translucent picture to view the quality of the shell.) MATERIALS: Carved natural oval shell. The brooch has the original pin and secure roller safety clasp in excellent working condition.
