Listing a beautiful vintage set of 4 Japanese Kutani miniature porcelain ashtrays dating back to the mid-20th century (circa 1950s-1970s).  Each highly collectible dish serves perfectly as a small ring bowl, jewelry catcchall or decorative trinket dish.  The center of each piece features a beautifully hand-painted portrait depicting a different classical scholar or immortal from the legendary 'Ogura Hyakunin Isshu' (One Hundred Poets) anthology.  This specific set includes the historic figures:  Monk Kisen (Kisen Höshi), Sarumaru Taifu Princess Shikishi and Fujiwara no Yoshitaka.  Flowing, elegant brush calligraphy lines run alongside the figures, representing traditional waka poem snippets.  The rims showcase classic Kutani styling with an iron0red background accented by fine, gold-gilded swirling cloud patterns and distinct gold cigarette rests.  The underside of each piece features the traditional red square "Kutani" signature hand-stamping.  Each dish measures approximately 3 1/4" in diameter. Structurally, this 4 piece set is in very good vintage condition with no chips structural cracks or hairline fractures to the white porcelain bodies.  Cosmically, two of the dishes exhibit minor vintage surface wear in the form of small flakes and filt loss on the bright gold-gilded cigarette rest indents, which exposes the white porcelain beneath the gold paint.  The remaining two dishes are completely free of the cosmetic flakes.  All four pieces show light, expected vintage rubbing to the gold scrollwork along the outer borders consistent with age and gentle handling over the decades.  Please review all close-up photos carefully to evaluate these minor surface flaws before purchasing.
