This valet is lined in a tawny orange flocked cardboard ("velvet"). I did Minwax the wood over the original finish and it is beautiful. Drawer fits and slides perfectly. It's about 12" x 6.5" x 2.5ish ". Empty your pockets on the top and keep your jewelry in the drawer. Rings, pins, tie tacks, cufflinks, tie clips, necklaces, bracelets, keepsakes: there's a place for it inside the drawer. Wallet, keys, coins, knife, money clip, thumb drive--if it fits in your pocket, there's a place for it on top. Your Chapstick will never roll off the dresser again. The last photo is another one, not this one, but it shows the wallet holder, etc. This valet is lined in a tawny orange flocked cardboard ("velvet"). I did Minwax the wood over the original finish and it is beautiful. There are some small bubbles in the original finish in the areas for keys, coins, etc. Drawer fits and slides perfectly. Some of the gold-colored coating has rubbed off the silver-colored base metal on the handle of the drawer only. The metal on the top is solid brass. It's about 12" x 6.5" x 2.5ish ".
