Up for sale is an exceptional, high quality example of a vintage Japanese Komai style Damascene cigarette case from the early Showa period (circa 1020s-1940). The front of the case captures a panoramic vista of traditional Japanese heritage. The iconic, snow capped silhouette of Mount Fuji anchors the background, while detailed sailing vessels glide across the shimmering waters in the foreground. Along the shoreline, an intricate village scene is beautifully brought to life with a traditional pagodas and shrine structures. The execution relies on genuine, meticulously beaten 24-karat gold and fine silver foil wire inlay. Metal work is in excellent condition with a functional clasp, hinge and an intact elastic band. Light rubbing on the outside surface is the standard expected pocket wear for an authentic almost 100 year on piece. Case measures approximately 4.5” x 3”. Condition: Used.
