Small bubbles, tool marks, variations in shape, differences in glass thickness, and irregularities in the distribution of aventurine are associated with the handmade glassmaking process. Vintage hand-blown Italian Murano art-glass ashtray or decorative bowl. The substantial freeform glass piece features a deep emerald-green exterior surrounding a black or very dark interior filled with dense gold aventurine flecks. Rows of controlled bubbles, also known as bullicante decoration, extend through the thick glass. The bowl has two folded cigarette rests and may be displayed as an ashtray, catchall, trinket dish, cigar rest, or sculptural Mid-Century Modern art-glass accent. The underside has a ground and polished pontil area associated with hand-blown glass production. Approximate measurements: 5¾ inches long 5¼ inches wide 2¾ inches tall Vintage pre-owned condition. Small bubbles, tool marks, variations in shape, differences in glass thickness, and irregularities in the distribution of aventurine are associated with the handmade glassmaking process. No cracks or chips were observed in the photographs. No maker’s label or signature was found, and the individual Murano glasshouse has not been confirmed.
