View Japanese Kutani-ware Bowl, 100 Poets, 100 Poems Motif, Hand-painted w/ Poetry with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. This Kutani Ware Matcha bowl is hand painted in a gold-gilt design with poems from the anthology "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu" (100 Poets, 100 Poems). These six panels show poets from the 13th century anthology, and their Waka poems are written in cursive calligraphy in each panel! Collectors of classical Japanese art, tea ceremony utensils, antique porcelain, or a lovely art piece to enliven a room should look no further than this beautiful piece. This Kutani Ware Matcha bowl is hand painted in a gold-gilt design with poems from the anthology "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu" (100 Poets, 100 Poems).  These six panels show poets from the 13th century anthology, and their Waka poems are written in cursive calligraphy in each panel!  These difficult poems require only 31 syllables! The bottom has the authentic red square stylized Kutani mark.  This is a remarkable find for collectors of all antiques!  These panels with the hand painted figures and the cursive calligraphy demand attention against the glaze of the white porcelain.  Incorporating the poems in each small panel showed the skill of the unknown artisan. It stands approximatley 2 inches tall by 1 inch at the base and  at the rim.   There is wear of the gold trim at the rim, but the panels remain rich and vibrant!  See the photos of the base for a chip that is only visible on the inner rim.  The last photo shows the outer rim and the chip is not visible.  It corresponds to the inner side.  100 years is a long time to survive without any damage! Will provide an English translation of the poems with the sale.  It's hard to find a better representation of this style for a reasonable price.  Buy it now! Condition: Used.
