These feature a dramatic raised tiki face with deeply molded facial details and a dark charcoal/black glazed finish. The underside retains the distinctive OMC JAPAN foil label, identifying these as Japanese-made Otagiri pieces. Otagiri Mercantile Company is particularly well known among tiki and Polynesian-pop collectors for the ceramic mugs and barware it produced/imported from Japan during the height of America’s tiki-bar era. Otagiri produced numerous distinctive tiki designs, many of which have become collectible today. These mugs have a particularly striking sculptural design, with large raised eyes, pronounced nose and mouth, elaborate facial detailing, and a full molded body below the face.
