All pieces in this collection were acquired new prior to 2003 and are from Patricia Breen's early production years — the period collectors regard as the height of the line's hand-detailing. ABOUT PATRICIA BREEN Patricia Breen ornaments are mouth-blown into molds in Poland, then hand-painted and embellished by a small group of skilled artisans — a process closer to studio glass than to manufacturing. Molds are retired and never reissued, which is why individual designs become difficult to find once a production year closes. Many were made in limited numbers for a single retailer or a single season. What sets these apart on a tree is the finish. Breen uses genuine German glass glitter — crushed glass, not plastic flake — so the surfaces refract light rather than simply bouncing it back. Under tree lights the color moves as you move: golds warm, greens deepen, jeweled accents catch and hold. It's an effect no photograph fully captures, and it's the reason collectors keep coming back to these. THE BEE COLLECTION A set of four Patricia Breen bee-themed blown glass ornaments, assembled around one of her most charming and least common motifs. Bees and beeskeps appear only occasionally across Breen's catalog, which makes a coherent grouping of four unusual to find together. The set comprises: Bee Tree — a glittered green fir standing on its own integrated base, hung with golden beeskeps and scattered with daisies, violets and bees. A large jeweled bee with pavé wings and rhinestone eyes perches at the crown. The freestanding base makes this as much a small sculpture as an ornament. Black Beeskep Santa — a black glass-glittered Santa cradling a golden skep, his robe blooming with pink roses and trailing greenery, the hem worked in daisies, dandelions and grasses with additional skeps at his feet. Bees circle the figure front and back. The black ground makes the gold and floral work read with real intensity. Beekeeper Santa — a pearlescent cream and gold Santa holding a large ribbed beeskep, with a bee smoker and hive stand worked into the figure and bees at the shoulders. The reverse is marked S.H.C. in the glass. Bee Santa Head — a golden hooded Santa head with a heavily glittered crown band, deeply modeled beard, and bees alighting across the hood. All four share a gold, cream and honey palette that groups beautifully. Displayed together they read as a set; individually each holds its own. PROVENANCE All pieces in this collection were acquired new prior to 2003 and are from Patricia Breen's early production years — the period collectors regard as the height of the line's hand-detailing. Ornaments from this era carry Breen's generic hang tags; named, numbered tags were not introduced until later. CONDITION Pristine. This collection has lived its entire life in a smoke-free home, carefully displayed and properly stored between seasons. No chips, cracks, flea bite, or paint loss. Original caps and hangers intact.
