The original wavy, bubbly glass is intact. There is newer paper glued to the back and a newer hanging wire. This is an original antique (late 19th century) deep layered walnut picture frame featuring contoured outer layer, gold gilt layer with diamond pattern, spoon carved layer with black edge, and contoured gold gilt inner layer. Inside the frame is the original portrait of a man, accented with charcoal and matted with textured paper matte decorated with gold dots.  Condition is very good, but there is some typical wear from age and use. The entire piece has acquired a darkened, aged patina and some minor surface wear, especially along edges and corners. There are no cracks, repairs, or other major damage and frame corners and layers are tight. The matte has some staining along top and bottom edges, but the portrait might only be slightly yellowed from age. The original wavy, bubbly glass is intact. There is newer paper glued to the back and a newer hanging wire. Outer dimensions are 14 1/4" x 16 1/4" and the frame is 3" deep. The opening in the back measures 8" x 10".
