Basic Information Qi Dakui was born in 1921 (the exact date is uncertain) and died in 1982. He was a Beijing native and was known as Xiaoxi Jushi and Xiyuan. His father, Qi Kun (also known as Jingxi Jushi), was a renowned artist of the Shanghai School. Qi Dakui inherited his family's legacy, excelling in fine-brush landscapes and seal carving. Artistic Achievements and Style Painting Characteristics: Inspired by the influence of Ming dynasty painters, his works are elegant and clear, employing light and transitional colors to enhance the sense of depth. His compositions are rigorous and his brushwork delicate. Representative works include the 1943 hanging scroll "Landscape" (sold at Lantian Guopai in 2007) and the 1949 painting "Landscapes in the Cold Forest," often stamped with seals, reflecting his rigorous approach to his work. Seal Carving Achievements: His techniques are simple and elegant, his calligraphy is dignified, and he emphasizes the strength and depth of the strokes. Personal Traits and Historical Evaluations Eccentric Personality: He was a solitary man who pursued artistic perfection, often revising his works. He also enjoyed raising dogs (he kept over ten indoors), a trait that resulted in very few of his works remaining. Historical Status: Although active in the Liulichang area in the 1940s, his personality and the scarcity of his works have drawn little attention.
