This is a ceramic bowl known as a chawan (tea bowl) used in a Japanesechado (tea ceremony). It dates to the mid Showa Era (c. 1950). It dates to the mid Showa Era (c. 1950).  Suitable  more for the winter season, i t is deep styled chawan used to keep the tea warm longer . It has hand painted, abstract floral images on the front and back. This chawan measures 5 1/2" wide at its widest by 3" tall (14 x 7.5 cm). There is a slight imperfection (as seen in picture 8) which was  formed during the greenware stage, prior to glazing and final firing. This means that it does not impact the functionality of the chawan at all!  Having been in storage for 70 years it remains   in  fine condition .  You'll love it, I guarantee it .........If you purchase this item and are not completely delighted with it, you may return it for a no questions asked refund within 30 days   of receipt.
