She set transatlantic speed records and embodied the golden age of ocean travel. Original  Real Photo Postcard (RPPC)  featuring the legendary French ocean liner  S.S. Normandie . Caption reads:  “S.S. ‘Normandie’ (French Line) Gross Tonnage 83,000, Length 1029 ft.”  Published by A. Mainer, New York, N.Y. The  Normandie , launched in 1932 and entering service in 1935, was one of the most celebrated and luxurious ships of her time. Famous for her  Art Deco interiors, streamlined design, and three iconic funnels , she quickly became a symbol of French engineering and elegance. She set transatlantic speed records and embodied the golden age of ocean travel. During World War II, the Normandie was seized in New York Harbor in 1941 and renamed  U.S.S. Lafayette . In 1942, while being converted for troop transport, she caught fire and tragically capsized at her pier. Though salvage efforts were attempted, she was ultimately scrapped, cementing her place as one of the greatest lost liners of the 20th century.
