One of the traditions at these events was for attendees to bring state pins and trade them for other state pins, making each pin a souvenir of the gathering. 2 Vintage New York Lapel/Hat Pins: I Love New York Apple - measures just under 1 inch from top to bottom, butterfly clutch closure. Empire State Building - measures approximately 1.25 inch from top to bottom, straight pin with c-clasp closure.  If you'd like to know the history of this pin, my grandparents got it at an American Legion Convention.
