What makes this particular piece highly collectible is its double-stamped bottom. It features the red overglaze manufacture mark for Theodore Haviland, alongside an additional custom backstamp for Burley & Company, Chicago. Burley & Co. was a premier, upscale importer of luxury glass and fine china in Chicago active from the late 1900s until 1923. Pieces custom-ordered by them for Chicago's elite are scarce and highly prized by Haviland collectors. The tureen features an elegant scalloped shape, robust ornate ribbon-style handles, and a matching bow-top handle on the lid. It is decorated with an intricate burgundy-red scroll motif and highlighted with heavy gold gilt accents along the rims and handles. Excellent antique condition! No chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs. There is some light, expected fading or rubbing to the gold gilt on the handles.
