Story Highlights Kyle Rayner receives a distress call from deep space and travels to a distant planet dominated by robots. The planet's wealthy organic rulers are mysteriously disappearing, and Kyle is summoned to investigate. The demanding rulers expect their Green Lantern "employee" to solve their problem, even pulling him away from his life as a struggling artist . Kyle eventually encounters the supposed culprit—a strange spider-like alien creature . Rather than immediately destroying it, Kyle takes the time to understand what is actually happening. When the planet's rulers send their robots to eliminate the creature despite Kyle's decision to spare it, Kyle is forced into a confrontation with the robots. The truth ultimately comes out: the alien wasn't attacking the rulers at all—it was simply protecting and feeding its young. Kyle defeats the robots and exposes the selfish rulers' misunderstanding, leaving them to deal with the consequences of their own actions.
