Vintage 1957 Blenko #5712 Tangerine Vase-Bottle by Wayne Husted A striking piece of Mid Century Modern American art glass, this Blenko #5712 Vase-Bottle was designed by Wayne Husted and appears in Blenko's 1957 catalog. The sculptural form pairs a tall, gently shaped neck with a broad rounded base, creating a beautifully balanced silhouette that feels remarkably modern nearly seventy years later. What makes this example especially captivating is Blenko's Tangerine color. Deep red-orange at the rim flows through glowing orange and amber before transitioning into brilliant golden yellow across the broad base. The color shifts beautifully depending on the surrounding light. Under UV light, portions of the Tangerine glass reveal a striking yellow-green fluorescence, particularly through the lighter areas near the base and lower neck. The reaction is consistent with cadmium fluorescence found in vintage glass and adds another fascinating dimension to Blenko's already distinctive Tangerine color. UV photographs and video are included to document the reaction. At approximately 11 inches tall and weighing over 3 pounds, this is a substantial piece of hand-blown art glass with wonderful presence. The glass remains beautifully vibrant and displays exceptionally well. Minor bubbles and subtle variations within the glass are characteristic of its hand-blown manufacture. The underside retains its original pontil mark. The vase has been cleaned, though due to the narrow neck and shape, the deepest portion of the interior could not be fully reached and retains some minor residue. This hand-blown example measures approximately 11 inches.
