Santa carries a decorated Christmas tree on his back, complete with candles and toys, while holly frames the foreground and the greeting  “A Merry Christmas”  appears at the bottom of the card. A snowy town skyline completes the festive winter scene. Before the red suit became the standard depiction of Santa Claus, postcards often portrayed him in  green, brown, blue, and other colors .
