Offered here is a wonderful  early 20th-century Valentine postcard  featuring artwork by the most celebrated postcard artist of the era,  Ellen H. Clapsaddle . The charming illustration shows a  small child seated at a table, writing a love letter , complete with ink bottle and pen, while a loyal  dog eagerly retrieves letters from a basket below . The sweet narrative scene is paired with a poetic Valentine verse that reads: “Writing I am without delay, To ask you to be mine some day, Hoping your answer to me will say— I love you much, please name the day.” At the bottom, the decorative lettering  “To My Valentine”  anchors the design—classic Clapsaddle in both sentiment and typography. Artist & Historical Context Ellen H. Clapsaddle  was the most prolific and influential postcard illustrator of the Golden Age (circa 1898–1915). She is especially renowned for her  Valentine designs , often featuring children, gentle humor, emotional storytelling, and verse—exactly as seen here.
