Chinese Antique Temple Figure – Hand-Carved, Polychrome Wood – 19th Century or Earlier A richly gilded seated figure with an impressive, full black beard , likely representing a revered official, ancestor, or deity associated with authority or wisdom. The gold-on-red palette and dragon-armrest seat indicate high ritual significance. Key Features Genuine Chinese temple figure with original gilding Retains long, dramatic black beard typical of authority figures in temple art Seated pose with finely carved throne elements Thick gilt layers with raised robe patterns Unique feature: Hands hold a small ceremonial object (possibly a ritual ingot or offering tablet) 8.5" high × 5" wide (approx.) Condition Typical age wear: flaking pigments, surface cracks, soot darkening, and devotional patina. Very stable with no modern repainting.
