The ski jump opened in 1934 with its first test jump occurring on February 5, preparing for the 1936 Games. Since 1921, the stadium has hosted traditional ski jumping events. Today, the stadium continues as the home of the New Year's ski jumping competition held each January 1st, serving as the second stage of the Four Hills Tournament. Located in the Bavarian Alps near Zugspitze (Germany's highest mountain at 2,962 meters), the stadium sits on the Gudiberg south of Partenkirchen.
