He took prizes for the total distance covered with nine hundred sixty kilometers three hundred sixty-eight meters, for the longest nonstop flight with ninety-seven kilometers, and for speed with sixty kilometers per hour. Born at Smolensk on November 1, 1881, Efimoff obtained his license on a Henry Farman biplane on February 10, 1910. As head of the Czarist military air school, he was to die not as the result of a crash, but at the hands of a Bolshevik firing squad in the revolution of 1917. Artist: Charles Leonce Brosse.
