Lasselle, Boston Description The sitter’s center-parted hair and smooth styling are very much in line with mid-1860s fashion, especially 1863 - 1867. The high, structured bodice with a row of buttons is also typical of women’s daywear in the mid-1860s. On the back is a 2-cent U.S. Internal Revenue Proprietary stamp, issued during the Civil War. These stamps were required on photographs, ambrotypes, and ferrotypes from August 1, 1864 to August 1, 1866. The purpose was to help fund the war effort through a tax on luxury goods and services, including photography. Photo was taken by G.P. Lasselle of Boston.  Measures approx. 3-5/8" x 2-3/8"  Condition Good condition, still has stamp on the back.
