This completely identified collection has remained together in a single descendant line for over 160 years. This lot has never before been sold.  Anchored by an elite 1/9 plate ambrotype of double-armed Confederate soldier John J. Jones (8th Kentucky Mounted Infantry), the archive includes four cased portraits capturing John, a half-case of his mourning younger sister Elizabeth, and a double-cased pair of their parents Mark and Elizabeth Pettypool Jones.   WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING: 1. C.S.A. Soldier John J. Jones (1/9 Plate Ambrotype in Single Leather Case):  Outstanding pre-departure 1861 portrait featuring 21-year-old John wearing a Confederate double-breasted shell jacket. Pictured double-armed, proudly holding an 1851 Colt Navy-style revolver across his chest with his cavalry saber visible at his side. Exceptional contemporary hand-gilding on uniform buttons, belt buckle, and pistol. John served in Co. D/G, 8th Kentucky Infantry (Mounted), and ultimately died on Christmas Day, 1862.   2. Sister Elizabeth "Bettie" Jones (1/9 Plate Ambrotype in Leather Half-Case):  Heartbreaking wartime portrait of 12-year-old Elizabeth taken shortly after her brother's death, dressed in Victorian mourning attire with vulcanite/gutta-percha beads. The photographer gold-leafed her pendant locket and earrings, mirroring her brother's photo. Housed in its original wooden/leather half-case (front cover lid missing/separated at hinge; glass, mat, and preserver intact). Features the original handwritten masking tape provenance label on the reverse by great-granddaughter Lib Shaw.   3. & 4. Parents Mark & Elizabeth Pettypool Jones (Two 1/9 Plate Ambrotypes in Double Case): Family patriarch Mark Jones (Trigg County "Black Patch" tobacco planter) and matriarch Elizabeth Pettypool Jones (carrying deep colonial Virginia lineage) housed together in a single dual-view cased housing. Both are buried alongside their children at Jones Cemetery #5.  5.Printed 20-Page Physical Research & Lineage Document : Includes historical summaries, military service records (CMSRs), census records, and burial documentation. Only some of the document is pictured in the listing.  CONDITION & PHYSICAL NOTES All four glass ambrotypes are housed in period mid-19th-century brass mats and preservers. The archive consists of three cased housings holding four total portraits: John in a single complete case, the parents in a single double-sided case, and Elizabeth in a half-case (lacking the front cover lid, displaying the tape label directly on the reverse). Cases show light wear consistent with 160+ years of careful family preservation.
