This Antique Green Storage Jar is a hand made large Ovoid with Ribbed Fluted sides. The Pot is Glazed Redware and Signed with a Chinese style impressed mark. The Pot is Glazed Redware and Signed with a Chinese style impressed mark. These crocks, pots, vessels were used for food storage, preservation and pickling. Antique Chinese Red-ware Green celadon glazed utilitarianism pot with fluted details. The base & side is unglazed signed with an impressed circular mark on the base. There is a circular seal mark on the bottom, typical of Chinese celadon pottery, often used to indicate the era of production or the specific studio where it was made. I was unable to identify the specific maker. The mark appears to be an impressed seal. These marks frequently utilize a zhuanshu (seal script), a stylized form of Chinese characters. I could not make out any characters on this piece. I found references to this form with ribbed sides, Attributed to (Henry Lee, Los Angeles, CA, 1982), my frequent shopping grounds. May not be relevant to this piece. Item Measures: 8 1/2” tall , top is 8” wide base is 7 1/2” across. Condition: lots of surface scratches on the green glaze at the high points along the sides from use. See closeup photos. In good old used condition kitchen crock, stained on the inside, no cracks or chips, bottom concave at the center, due to the method of construction. This piece was created with slab pottery not thrown on a wheel.
