The stone is vibrant, clear, and firmly set, and the pin hardware functions properly and holds securely. This antique Art Nouveau / Austro-Hungarian Revival paste brooch dates from the late 1800s to early 1920s . The exquisite statement piece features a large, dramatic cushion-cut sapphire blue paste glass stone nestled in a highly ornate, die-struck gilt brass repoussé frame decorated with stylized rosettes and acanthus floral motifs. The central paste stone is open-backed (unfoiled) , allowing light to pass completely through, and is held securely by four prominent, spade-shaped integrated metal prongs . The stone is vibrant, clear, and firmly set, and the pin hardware functions properly and holds securely.  Please note: the C-Clasp and Hinge mechanism are original, but the pin itself may have been replaced at some point (no evidence of that other than mismatch in the pin length and different metal tone).
