Bass & Co. Weejuns, proudly Made in USA, in a rich burgundy/oxblood leather. This is an older American-made example of one of the most iconic penny loafers in American menswear. Bass introduced the Weejuns name in the 1930s, and the penny loafer subsequently became deeply associated with American collegiate, Ivy League and traditional preppy style. This pair retains that unmistakable heritage look: burgundy leather, handsewn-style moc toe construction, traditional penny keeper and a low-profile leather sole. The interior is marked G.H. Bass & Co. – Since 1876 – Weejuns, Made in USA, men’s 12 D, with leather upper and leather lining. The rich burgundy coloration has developed attractive variation and character from wear while still retaining a handsome shine. The Made in USA construction is particularly desirable compared with later imported Weejuns and makes these a great choice for collectors and enthusiasts of vintage American footwear, Ivy/Trad clothing and heritage menswear. Condition: Good pre-owned vintage condition with honest signs of previous wear. The uppers show normal creasing, light scratches/scuffs and some wear around the moc-toe stitching and edges. The leather soles show noticeable wear from use, particularly at the forefoot and heel. Interiors also show normal signs of previous wear. Despite the wear, the leather uppers retain excellent color, shine and character, and the shoes present beautifully as an authentic pair of older American-made Weejuns.
