The Dan people live in the western part of the Ivory Coast and extend into Liberia. The masks are used during initiation ceremonies by male dancers. This is a very old antique  Dan tribal people  hand carved wood  Poro society embellished African mask which was collected from the Ivory Coast and was handmade by male tribal members. This original Dan ceremonial mask is decorated with cloth medicine bundles, cowry shells and raffia and it measures 15.75 inches long by 11 inches wide. The Dan people live in the western part of the Ivory Coast and extend into Liberia. Dan masks are only carved by initiated members of the male Poro society. The masks are used during initiation ceremonies by male dancers. This Dan made mask is in great but rustic antique tribally made and danced condition with wear including some dirt, surface patina and a few chips in the wood on the back inside rim of the mask.
