Shamrocks, which have 3 leaves, were a traditional Irish symbol tied to  the Holy Trinity and St. Patrick himself.  They were often used on postcards of the era to represent both cultural heritage and the Holy Trinity. This postcard, however, features  four-leaf clover,  a symbol of luck and good fortune most commonly found on New Year's postcards. This card was part of the vibrant holiday postcard tradition that flourished between 1900–1915, when publishers in Germany and England produced some of the finest chromolithographic cards for export worldwide.
